Five Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Entry Door
You go in and out of it multiple times in a day, but how often do you really take a good look at your entry door?

A well-maintained entry door provides security, makes your home energy efficient, adds curb appeal to your house, and increases your home’s value. But if your exterior door is in poor shape, it may be doing a disservice to your home. Next time you pass by your front door, take a moment to check its condition. Signs it’s time to replace your entry door include:
- Cracks in the door. Visible cracking and chipping of an exterior door indicates that the door itself is weakened. This can make it easier for criminals to pop open your door and break-in to your home. Additionally, cracks in an exterior door let outdoor air into your home, making your HVAC system work harder to regulate the temperature.
- Difficulty opening or closing the door. Loose hinges or a sagging frame may be the reason why it is hard to open or close your entry door, particularly in the summer when doors tend to swell in the heat. While repairs can help make it easier to open and close the door, repeatedly having to fix the problem indicates that a new door is needed.
- Draftiness. A drafty door is an inefficient door. Check for drafts with your hand, a candle, or a piece of paper. Some drafts can be stopped by adding weatherstripping to your door, however if drafts persist, a new entry door is the best solution. Not only will this keep your house comfortable, but you’ll also save money on your monthly energy bills.
- Weathering. After years of being exposed to the elements, especially if you don’t have a storm door, your entry door will likely start to show its age. A weathered door may be rotting, warped, and have uneven surfaces. A new door will give your home a much-needed update to keep it looking good.
- An outdated style. It’s also ok to replace your entry door simply because it doesn’t match your style. Perhaps you prefer a modern, minimalist look or want to replace your single-entry door with double doors. Since your front door is the first impression your house makes on the world, make it one that reflects your style.
